Including mobile display ads in your online advertising can have an incremental impact which can improve the overall effectiveness of a campaign. Google partnered with Nielsen on a study where participants were asked to view related content across TV, PCs, smartphones and tablets. A 15-second video ad promoting Volvo's S60 sedan was shown to different groups of participants, with some people seeing no ads, and others seeing the ad on a different combinations of screens, controlling for frequency. In the group that was exposed to TV ads alone, 50% of people correctly attributed the ad to Volvo. For groups that saw the ad across all screens -- TV, PC, smartphone and tablet -- the brand recall jumps dramatically to 74%.

Don’t make the mistake of re-using your desktop PC display ads for mobile and tablet
campaigns.
Mobile best practices include featuring your brand name to the left,
including a clear call-to-action, showing your product fully within the creative, and
simplifying the copy so that your mobile display creative is easy to read.
Tablets, like mobile devices, can make use of touchscreen interactions, like swiping, tapping, tilting and even shaking. Also make sure that your images are high quality to take advantage of the high-res screens on tablets.
If you’ve invested time and budget in making the perfect mobile display ad then you want to ensure a user has a good experience after clicking it. Did you know that 57% of users would not recommend a business with a bad mobile site (Compuware, 2011)? A mobile-optimized website or landing page will give users a great experience and yield better results from your mobile campaign.
