Google Trends: spotlight on jewelry

Google Trends lets you compare the world's interest in topics that matter to you. Advertisers can use Google Trends to gain more insight into user search patterns. For example, search traffic for Valentine's keywords such as chocolates and roses showed a marked increase at the end of January 2007 and spiked in early February 2007, while the keyword jewelry also received a significant lift.

And this lift matches consumer online purchases. According to comScore Networks, the first quarter of 2007 presented the second strongest quarter for the jewelry industry in terms of consumer buying power, right after the fourth quarter of 2006.4 If you're a jewelry advertiser, make sure that you're ready for Valentine's Day 2008 with seasonal campaigns, and prepare for potential increases in traffic by allocating enough daily budget.

Potential increases in traffic may cause you to use up your budget more quickly than usual, and once your daily budget limit is reached, your ads will typically stop showing for that day. Keep track of your campaign costs to ensure you're allocating enough budget for your ads to show consistently throughout the day. For maximum ad exposure, use the recommended daily budget on the Edit Campaign Settings page in your account. And when Valentine's Day is over, pause the campaign.
