Spotlight on the music industry

Get in tune with the trends. Last year, traffic to music websites increased every month from April to July, when it reached its peak.1 As we head into the summer months, keep these trends in mind to anticipate the 2008 buying season.

To get a glimpse of what's to come, here's a quick look at how the music industry is expected to grow and what you can do to prepare:

Growth

  • Digital sales will total 34% of consumer music spending in 2012.2
  • In 2008, spending on music downloads will reach $1.57B, almost double 2006's figure of $833M.2
  • The ring tones industry is expected to reach $1B by 2009.3
