Tips and trends

Father's Day

Father's Day is June 15, and dads can expect some nifty gifts from the kids. Spending on Dad is on the rise – in 2007, shoppers said they'd spend $98.34 on average for Father's Day, up nearly $10 from 2006. Of those who paid tribute to Dad, nearly 18 percent intended to purchase electronics or computer-related accessories.3

TIP: Think outside the box to determine which of your products might be popular Father's Day gifts, and use your ad text to help shoppers understand why. Include phrases like "Great for Dads" to show people you have what they're looking for.

Graduation

Family and friends of the Class of 2008 are looking for graduation gifts. Chances are, grads will get more than just their diplomas – 11.5 percent of U.S. shoppers planned to purchase consumer electronics as gifts for high school or college grads last year.4

TIP: Target people shopping for grads by highlighting recipients in your keywords and ad text, such as gifts for grads or graduation gifts.

Summer break

School's (almost) out for the summer, and kids and young adults will have more free time to browse online, watch online videos, look at pictures, and more.

TIP: Students will likely spend more time updating profiles and socializing with friends on social networking sites. If your target audience includes young adults or students, think about showing your ads on social networks like MySpace and certain Facebook applications. With Google, you can reach 48 of the top 100 social networking sites.5 You can also use the new demographic bidding feature to target social network users by age and gender, allowing you to zero in on your potential customers.
