Winter 2007

New year cheer

Sure, you may not do gift wrapping, but winter is still a key season for the automotive industry. Keep your eyes peeled for increased traffic in late December and January, a few weeks after other retailers see a holiday shopping boost.

As you get ready for the new year, here are some trends and forecasts to keep in mind:

  • Automotive sites saw a 12.6 percent increase in pageviews between December 2006 and January 2007. This bump lines up with year-end deals, the Superbowl, and increased demand for service and parts during the height of winter 1.
  • Auto resource and information sites saw an 18.8 percent increase in pageviews between December 2006 and December 2007 2.
  • Worldwide auto parts and accessories sales are expected to reach $1 trillion by 2010. The U.S. represents the largest marketing, accounting for 30 percent of demand 3.
  • Spanish speakers are expected to keep buying more auto products in 2008. One of the fastest-growing auto consumer groups in the U.S., Hispanics jumped from 3.6 to 4.6 percent of all new, used, or leased vehicle consumers between 2005 and 2006 4.

What does this mean for you? It's time to start gearing up for continued growth and managing your budget for increased traffic. And, if you serve the entire U.S. or a region with a large Hispanic population, you might want try running ads in Spanish or creating a Spanish version of your website.
