Out with the old

According to JupiterResearch, the 2006 holiday season was particularly strong. With over 117 million online shoppers, online sales reached $33 billion in the U.S., representing a 21 percent increase over 2005 2.

What were the most popular items? Clothing, books, digital media, and toys topped online buyers’ shopping lists, while jewelry and watches made up the fastest growing category 3 4.

In with the new

The popularity of online holiday shopping promises to continue this year as well. In a study conducted by AdvertisingAge.com, 84 percent of respondents said they planned to spend as much as or more than they did during the 2006 holiday season 5.
