Google AdWords Editorial Guidelines for TV Ads
All AdWords advertising that you create should follow the same fundamental principles. Ads should:
- Clearly and accurately represent your business.
- Emphasize the unique benefits of your product or service.
In general, the policies for TV ads build on our existing Image Ad Guidelines and Video Ad Guidelines. However, as they are not identical, please review the additional TV Ad Specifications below to ensure your ad meets our guidelines. We reserve the right to modify or amend our policies at any time and the format requirements are subject to change.
Ad Length and Time Use
- Ad length must be 15, 30, 45, or 60 seconds exactly, with no slate.
- Video and audio quality must be clear and understandable.
- Ad cannot contain lengths of blank screen. The ad content must take up the full length of the ad.
- Each TV ad must advertise only one business; the ad may not be split to advertise multiple companies.
Format and Bit Rates:
- Samples: 48Khz, 16bits
- Codec: MPEG1-Layer 2, AAC, PCM
- Bitrate: At least 256kbps
- Number of channels: 2 (stereo)
- Dynamic Audio Range: no greater than 7dB
- Resolution: 720 x 480 @ 29.97fps (NTSC)
- Upper/Top/Odd field first
- Codec: AVC H.264 (Main Profile 3.0), MPEG-2 (Main Profile @ Main Level)
- Bitrate: At least 6 Mbps (CBR)
- Number of frames for NTSC format
- 15 sec ad: 449 or 450 frames
- 30 sec ad: 899 or 900 frames
- 45 sec ad: 1348 or 1349 frames
- 60 sec ad: 1798 up to 1800 frames
- Size: 100MB maximum
- Format: AVI, MOV, TS (MPEG2 Transport Stream)
| Adhere to the Content Policy |
As a business, Google must make decisions about where we draw the line in regards to the advertising we accept. We, therefore, may not accept ads containing or relating to certain products or services. We reserve the right to exercise editorial discretion when it comes to the advertising we accept, as noted in our advertising terms and conditions. Please note that the decisions we make concerning advertising in no way affect the search results we deliver.
We reserve the right to modify or amend our policies at any time and the format requirements are subject to change. Additionally, we reserve the right to disapprove any TV ad for any reason.
Like all Google ads, your TV ad and the business it advertises must conform to our Content Policy. In addition, video ads may not contain the following:
- Political election or political fundraising ads
- No adult sexual content (including but not limited to sexual activity, sexual merchandise and dating services, and crude or indecent language).

- Prescription drugs
- 1-900 numbers and text messaging services
- Offers of rebates, coupons, sales, or free services or merchandise
You are responsible for ensuring that your TV ad is in compliance with all applicable local laws and regulations. In addition, all ads aired on a US-based television station are required to meet FCC guidelines.
- Your ad must clearly and accurately describe your business, product, or service.
- Your ad must clearly identify the sponsor of the ad.

- You must honor any prices and/or offers made in your ad.
- When using terms such as "guarantee" or "warranty", your ad must disclose any major limitations of a limited warranty. Your ad should also state clearly where to find full details of the warranty and make the information easily accessible.

- You must have appropriate permission before using celebrity names, voices, or impersonations in your ad.
- Your ad must not contain content that infringes on someone else's copyright.

- Your ads may not imply an affiliation with Google.
| Proper Trademark Standards |
- Trademarks are important business assets that can diminish in value if they are not used correctly. Please familiarize yourself with our Trademark Policy and our Trademark Guidelines.

| No Inappropriate Language |
- Your ad cannot contain offensive or inappropriate language.
- Your ad can not contain censored or bleeped out expletives.
- Ads must advertise a product or service. We do not allow ads that are not commercial in nature.
- Your ad cannot contain non-business-related personally identifiable information, such as an individual's non-commercial phone number.
If your ad is targeted for children, it is your obligation to comply with the following:
- Any applicable laws, regulations and guidelines including federal, state and local laws
- Federal Trade Commission regulations
- CARU's (Children’s Advertising Review Unit) Self-Regulatory Guidelines for Children's Advertising
