The Lagos Innovation Hotspots Map aims to map geographical locations that represent clusters of emerging high growth and competitive businesses across Lagos. The interactive map provides information on each cluster – its businesses and location based support services. The project is an initiative of the Co-creation Hub Nigeria supported by the Lagos State Government and the Lagos State Innovation Advisory Council.
Co-creation Hub Nigeria (CcHUB) is dedicated to empowering people and accelerating technological innovation to increase economic prosperity in Nigeria. CcHUB is the first organization in Nigeria to offer space, resources, and social networking for emerging technologists, entrepreneurs, government projects, tech companies, future-oriented investors, and software developers around Lagos.
The Lagos Innovation Hotspots Map website uses the Google Maps and Geocoding APIs to capture and represent innovation clusters. Users enter the address of a business or hotspot that meets the initiative's set criteria. The platform uses the Geocoding API to translate user-entered information into longitudes and latitudes which are used to display the locations on a Google Map. Google Maps offers users a familiar interface so that they can quickly learn how to use the application.
The Lagos Innovation Hotspots Map started as a CcHub initiative to increase understanding of the microeconomic business environments in which innovative companies exist and compete. The project grew fast and is now officially supported by the Lagos State Government. The project’s vision is to enable the Lagos State Government to promote deliberate economic development in areas with an existing competitive advantage. The next step will be to implement the same initiative in other states in Nigeria with the intention of eventually making it a nationwide initiative.
