The Florence County Sheriff's Office conducted a special operation Tuesday night to crack down on prostitution, drugs and other crimes at motels along Highway 52 at I-95 or West Lucas Street in Florence, according to Florence County Sheriff T.J. Joye.

Joye said they seized a substantial amount of cash and some drugs.

Some community members said deputies were on scene for several hours and they had a few cars stopped.

Joye said they're going to continue to conduct random stings and special operations in the area because they want to put an end to crimes there that have plagued the community for more than 15 years.

He added it's not going to change overnight, but they'll continue to work the area to make it safe for the people who call it home.

Joye said additional information will be released later Wednesday afternoon regarding the results of Tuesday's special operation.
