Mombasa has a variety of hotels and it would really depend on your needs. If you want a quite place then Whitesands may not be a good be good for you...again the budget will also determine. Luxurious and expensive is Mombasa Serena, more family like Sun n sands and Sarova Whitesands. more beach hotels on this reference.

Whitesands is a classy hotel and pricy...i have however stayed at Bamburi beach hotel and loved it...great food, friendly staff and immaculate rooms

Best is relative...if you are looking for one of the most expensive, try Serena Beach Hotel. If it is quality service Serena have some quality service, but so too do Nyali Beach, Sun n Sands and many others. My advice to you is to try South Coast especially Diani and Ukunda where many quality hotels are door to door to each other. Note though, the best hotels in the Kenyan coast do not advertise (ask Hollywood movie stars, Jose Morinho and Bill Gates) , the rely on word of mouth from patrons or referrals from tour firms, so talk to your tour agent depending on how deep your pockets are.

according to a survey done by kayak, Serena beach hotel and spa emerged the top hotel in Mombasa out of the top 23 hotels in the coast.
