Council of the Year award presented to Van Nuys Council 3148 at California Knights of Columbus 105th Annual State Convention
ONTARIO, CA, May 19, 2007 - Knights of Columbus Council 3148 in Van Nuys has received California State Council of the Year. The Council of the Year award is given to the best of the 621 councils in the state of California. The award recognizes overall excellence in areas of membership, charitable works and commitment to the Church and community.
Grand Knight Bob Lombardo accepted the award at the recent Knights of Columbus 105th annual state convention. Mr.
Lombardo, a UCLA graduate, said "I accept this award on behalf of and with the help of my officers and the dedicated men of Van Nuys council who gave selflessly of their time to better our community and strengthen our Holy Catholic Church." Van Nuys is council is best known in the San Fernando Valley as the council that sponsors one of the largest Pro-Life events in the Los Angeles area. Each year hundreds of people turn out and walk two miles to raise money for the Pregnancy Counseling Center in Mission Hills.
In addition to the Council of the Year trophy, the Van Nuys council of the Knights of Columbus took home the following awards:
- State Deputy Award (awarded to the top 12 councils in the state)
- Council Best Membership - Total Gain
- 1st Place - Church Activities
- 2nd Place - Public Relations
- 3rd Place - Culture of Life
- Best in State - Membership
