Description

Pudding, made the old fashioned way. 

This pudding recipe is a good starter recipe for children interested in cooking.    

Pudding comments:  Please note that this pudding recipe differs from modern commercial pudding.  Grandma Bartling was using this pudding recipe in the 1930s.  This pudding makes an excellent dessert, side dish or snack.

 

INGREDENTS

 

1 cup    Sugar

¼ cup   Butter

2           Eggs

1 cup    Nut meats  (Pecans, preferred)

2 cups  Graham crackers (crushed)

1 cup    Milk

1 cup    Dates (diced)

1 tsp.    Baking Powder

1 tsp.    Vanilla

1 tbsp.   Flour

 

PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS

 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Grease and flour 9x9x2 pan.

 

Mixture 1:  Cream the sugar and butter.  Add eggs and beat.  Add vanilla.

Mixture 2:  Mix cracker crumbs, baking powder and flour together.   Add diced dates and nut meats.

 

Alternately add Mixture 2 and milk to Mixture 1.

 

Bake approximately 55 min. or until toothpick inserted into pudding comes out clean.

 

Servings:   16 when the size of each serving is 2 inches by 2 inches.   

 

Preparation time does not include baking time.
