Description

In recent years, there's been an explosion of life-saving treatment advances against breast cancer, bringing new hope and excitement.

Today, the goal is precise, targeted surgery that aims to preserve as much of the healthy breast and surrounding areas as possible. Even mastectomy (breast removal) is a more refined, less drastic option than it was a generation ago.

Following measures can be taken for cure of  breast  cancer:-

 1)    Radiation therapy - also called radiotherapy , is a highly targeted, highly effective  way to destroy cancer cells. Radiation therapy's high-energy beams are focused on the area that needs to be treated. This might include the breast area, lymph nodes, or another part of the body.

Radiation affects cancer cells more than normal cells. Cancer cells are very busy  growing and making new cells—two activities that are very vulnerable to radiation damage. Cancer cells are less organized than healthy cells, it's harder for them to repair the damage and recover.  So cancer cells are more easily destroyed by radiation, while healthy,    normal cells are better able to repair themselves and survive.

  2)  Surgery - mainly two types of surgery can be done. They are:

 a) breast-conserving surgery or lumpectomy in which only the tumor is removed from the breast.

 b) mastectomy - its an operation in which whole breast is removed.

 3) Chemotherapy – its a therapy that affects whole body  by passing through  bloodstream. The purpose  of  this therapy is to get rid of any cancer cells that may have spread from where the cancer originated to another part of the  body.
