Canada Day in La Manche Park (GC1R4NH)

Come spend the afternoon with Da By's, and celebrate Canada Day.

Canada Day in our Provincial Parks is a nice family event. Some park have parades, games, nature hikes, and much more for the whole family.

This year I plan on having a geocache event in the old La Manche village, now part of La Manche Provincial Park.

There are 7 caches located in the park (one is a 5/5 rating), and there are 5 more that border the park. we plan on placing at least 5 more caches in the park both in the village and in the camping area.

The event will start rain or shine, (if it is snowing, or thunder and lightning this will be cancelled) at 1:00pm, at the above coords, and should last an hour.

The schedule will be as follows

1:00 - start of event / welcome
1:05 - breif history of La Manche Village
1:10 - moment of silence and ceremony for Remembering Beaumont Hammel.
1:20 - Happy Birthday Canada!
1:25 - FTF draw (with a twist), Sign log.
1:30 - Draw for prizes.
1:45 - Upcoming events, cacher milestones, group photo.
1:55 - Receive list of existing and new caches in the park/area
2:00 - Lets Geocache!

Parking for the event would be located at the end of La Manche road (located 1km south on route 10 from La Manche Provincial Park entrance); at the entrance to the East Coast Hiking Trail. You will have to hike down this trail to the village, and once there if early explore the village. I have counted over 150 people spending the afternoon hiking, picnicking, swimming, and even geocaching in the village quite often.

If you cannot make it to this event, try and make it out to your local Provincial Park and spend the day. I will add info for other Provincial Parks Canada Day events later on.

The hike to the village is an exciting one i have seen all types of wildlife from rare birds, to moose, hares, eagles, otters, seals, and even whales are also common sight at the village.

give your self a good 30 - 45 minutes to hike the trail to the village from the parking lot. please wear suitable shoes, there are some places where crocks or sandles are not good to have on your feet.

the village is also a great place to have a picnic, however camping in this area is forbidden due to its remoteness and lack of cell phone coverage.

where this is our first event if anyone would like to donate something, help out, or give us a few pointers feel free to contact me.

finally if you are planning on attending please let me know so i would have somewhat of an idea on a general number.

Please take the attributes into consideration (Remember this is a Provincial Park)
No open fires
No camping
No cutting
ALL DOGS MUST BE ON A LEASH!
there are no restrooms near by
no cell phone coverage
there are cliffs and steep hills in the area so keep back from edges.
parking at the ECT trail head is free however if you wish to park in the park it may cost you (also there is a big hil to climb)
you can get a stroller to the village however it would be easier to leave it in the car (trust me on that)

any questions feel free to contact me.
