Pre-Law Opportunity to Combat Foreclosures with Harvard Legal Aid Bureau

Subject: Part-Time Fall/Spring Interns Sought at Harvard Legal Aid Bureau

Are you interested in fighting foreclosures? Interested in grassroots community action and community lawyering? Harvard Legal Aid Bureau is offering an exciting internship opportunity for area undergraduates this fall and spring. Harvard Legal Aid Bureau is a Cambridge non-profit affiliated with Harvard Law School that is dedicated to providing legal services to low income persons.

Each Harvard Legal Aid Bureau intern will assist the Bureau's community outreach activities, receive instruction in Massachusetts housing law in order to provide educational information to foreclosure victims, and meet weekly with supervisors. Interns will be supervised by David Haller and Nick Hartigan, student-attorneys with Harvard Legal Aid Bureau. Interns will also work closely with Steve Meacham, a community organizer at City Life. City Life is a Boston community organizing non-profit that helps the Bureau deliver legal services to low income persons.

Specific duties will include:

- Grassroots door-to-door outreach to Boston properties affected by foreclosure
- Development of communications, press releases and website content to assist outreach
- Research through Geographic Information Systems analysis
- Fundraising and grant writing
- Coordination with Boston-area universities, youth groups, outside organizations, and faith-based groups

Harvard Legal Aid Bureau is looking for interns who can work weekdays and/or weekends. Part-time internships are available. Interns will be expected to be able to work independently and to think creatively about how to contribute to the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau's mission. Students at all levels and with any major or concentration are welcome to apply. The internship is not paid; however, there will be many opportunities to receive excellent practical experience in housing, grassroots community action and law.
