‘Indian-Persian-Sudanese Collaboration with Soul'

Returning to Brisbane after 5 years playing music around Japan and India, tabla player and global soul Shen Flindell is back with his musical compadres to continue further explorations in http://ethnosuperlounge.com/">EthnoSuperLounge with monthly concerts on the last Saturday of the month at Core Yoga's new deluxe city-view space at 5/72 Vulture Street, West End (third floor).

Opening at 7pm on Saturday 29 September, 'http://tinyurl.com/2kycqy">Global Soul Music Vol. 1" will feature Asim Gorashi (Sudan), Cieavash Arean (Iran), Vijaya Visvanathan (India) and Shen (Australia) in a diverse and harmonious journey of songs and sounds, including singalong Bhajans and a world music jam with EthnoSuperLounge friends.


Asim Gorashi is a musician who has traveled the long winding road that has earned him a unique background both as an educator and artist. A multi instrumentalist, Asim plays not only Oud and violin, he also sings and plays keyboards, the Arabic lute, Sudanese traditional guitar, mandolin as well as viola, and is one of the sweetest whistlers around. Asim Gorashi is a founding member of the band Sudanese Sound; he has also played in the band of Sudan’s best-loved singer, folk hero and revolutionary Mohammed Al-Amin. He now lives permanently in Brisbane where he is doing his post graduate studies.

His passion and love of music has attracted a strong audience in recent years. A multi-instrumentalist to say the least, the list of instruments that Cieavash performs include - Barbat (Oud), Kamanche, Nay, Tar, Flute, Accordion, Daff and Zorna. Cieavash is also a wonderful vocalist. Born in Tehran, Iran Cieavash has a love for traditional Middle Eastern music. These include - Turkish, Persian, Arabic and Armenian. He is self taught and plays by ear. Cieavash has performed all over the country, most recently, Woodford Folk Festival, Qld Multicultural Festival, Brisbane Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Brisbane Powerhouse. Whether it's a live performance or working on music for a film, you can be sure that his heart is in every performance.

http://home.iprimus.com.au/saralax/vijaya.htm">Vijaya Visvanathan is an artiste who is passionately committed to promoting Indian classical music. She hails from a family of famous musicians from Mumbai, India. Now settled in Brisbane, she performs regularly in various functions and programs, including many cross-cultural collaborations. She is also a regular performer at the Woodford Folk Festival and the Sacred Music Festival. Smt. Visvanathan has dedicated her life and soul completely to her students, young and not so young who come to learn music under her.

Shen's tabla playing is noted for his clear sound, comfortable rhythmic sense, intuitive accompaniment, sensous bayan (bass) and a feeling of sincere devotion to Guru, Saraswati, Music and Tabla.
