This VITA 41.2 extension promises to increase the performance of fabric-limited applications by three times or more. Designers and developers are looking to VXS to solve defense embedded compute problems with serial RapidIO's unprecedented performance and processing density, while maintaining compatibility with the standard VME form factor.

But is VXS ready for prime time?

This seminar uses the PowerStream 6100 module set from Mercury Computer Systems as an example of how VXS can supercharge an RF channelizer application. Developers and innovators, who are considering using VXS for their applications, can benefit from this seminar, which will present: How VXS enhances VME with a high-speed serial fabric; A technology demonstration showing a radio frequency (RF) channelizing system using the PowerStream 6100's RF Tuner, A/D, Quad MPC7448 DSP modules, FPGA processing and I/O, and robust development environment; Leveraging an existing installed base of VME modules while gradually migrating to VXS

VME developers can begin migrating applications immediately using the PowerStream 6100 starter kit. See how this next-generation VME innovation can unlock value in your application and allow it to reach new levels of performance.

Presented by: Mercury Computer Systems

Speaker(s):

Meeting carrier requirements with AdvancedTCA and AdvancedMCs

When: Mon Mar 27, 2006 11pm to 12am

Finding the optimal implementation usually involves exploring the tradeoffs between fully parallel vs. serial architectures of the algorithm and will be highly dependent on the available resources, speed, and architecture of the FPGA device. This e-cast will explore how these optimizations work and how they can be applied automatically to high-level algorithm models using Synplicity's Synplify DSP tool. The seminar will include examples in wireless communications and will benefit HW and system engineers who are interested in:
Chris Ciufo will investigate the markets and applications for all of these - and more - to try to help readers understand where each fits, and why. Sorting out these new standards is especially important, for two reasons. First, many VME users still use VME32 adddressing, and are only now migrating to VME64. These fundamental parallel bus architectures stand in sharp contrast to the new VITA standards which all emphasize a migration to serial fabrics (away from parallel buses). Secondly, of the new standards, some of them can be considered to 'compete' with one another. Readers and designers need to be able to differentiate between them by understanding the strengths, weaknesses and target applications for each.

Presented by: VMEtro and Curtiss Wright

Speaker(s): Dave Barker, VMEtro; John Wemekamp and Stewart Dewar, Curtiss Wright

MicroTCA: the nifty little open standard module and chassis that's making waves in military, industrial, small form factors… and of course: telecom markets

When: Thu May 17, 2007 2pm to 3pm

These systems will be deployed in some of the harshest and most demanding environmental conditions inside unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), manned aircraft, and ship- and ground-based radar systems.

This webcast will begin by examining the data processing functions needed to support multi-function radar applications. Then three example algorithms will be presented as efficient ways to manage that processing. Lastly, those algorithms will be mapped across three different types of processors - PowerPC, PowerQUICC, and FPGAs - in a rugged, deployable multiprocessor adhering to the new VPX-REDI (VITA 46/48) standards. The focus of the webcast is on providing practical, real-world approaches to addressing complex system issues.

Presented by: Mercury Computer Systems

Speaker(s): James Meyer, Systems Application Engineer, Mercury Computer Systems

Interop Delivered: Overview of CP-TA Interoperability Compliance Document and Test Procedure Manual

When: Wed Feb 21, 2007 1pm to 2pm

This Webinar will provide an overview of the CP-TA's Interoperability Compliance Document (ICD) and Test Procedure Manual (TPM). The ICD defines objective and verifiable interoperability criteria, and provides guidance to the definition of the test procedures described in the TPM. The ICD 1.0 covers three major functional areas of AdvancedTCA platforms: Thermal, Manageability and Data Transport. Attendees will gain insight into the requirements that are necessary to enable interoperable building blocks and system components from multiple vendors.
