Here are examples of the jobs a data center will eventually need to succeed:

  • Data Center Facilities Manager – Responsible for facilities management of the data center. Ideal candidates will have experience managing a medium to large data center, or critical infrastructure and an undergraduate degree in an engineering field.
  • Data Center Facilities Technician – Responsible for day-to-day operating, monitoring and supporting the data center. Ideal candidates will possess an associate's degree, trade school certification, or other verifiable training in a relevant technical field. Experience as a journeyman or mechanical, HVAC or electrical expertise is sought.
  • Linux System Administrator – Responsible for configuring system and network parameters, monitoring system stability and performance and help develop tools to monitor and maintain systems. Ideal candidates will have multiple years of Linux experience, working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, knowledge of web servers, firewalls/security, NIS/NFS, DNS, MTAs and programming/scripting ability (bourne, bash, perl, python, C), and the ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Data Center Technician – Responsible for the installation of servers and network gear and the general maintenance and deployment of new servers as well as the day-to-day maintenance of data center equipment. Ideal candidates will possess a minimum of two years PC hardware and troubleshooting, and one or more year of Linux experience.
  • Manager/Director Server Operations – Responsible for site management of the data center as well as several teams dedicated to the continued improvement of server operations. Ideal candidates will have strong technical management experience in a technical field. A BS in an Applied Science, MS/PhD is preferred.

We seek to contract with local vendors whenever possible and will continue to post opportunities here as they arise. While all of our contracting needs are currently met, we're happy to forward any vendor inquiry to the appropriate resource for consideration. Educational partnerships

Google is focused not only on the operation of its data centers, but also on the communities in which we build our data centers. To fulfill our goal of hiring locally, we are working with local, accessible and affordable community colleges and universities to help them develop or enhance their Information Technology (IT) programs.  In doing so, we hope to enhance employment prospects for members of the community who are just entering the workforce, re-training, or exploring different career paths. This effort will also benefit other potential employers in the area, not just Google.
