Indigenous Mapping Workshop in Canada

When: 2014
Along with key partners the Union of BC Indian Chiefs, the Firelight Group, and University of Victoria, Google Earth Outreach hosted 100 mappers from over 40 First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities from Canada for an Indigenous Mapping Workshop. Over the course of the workshop, participants shared insights and innovations from their own community mapping projects and learned how Google mapping technologies can support the mapping of cultural and natural resources for better-informed decision-making with regard to indigenous lands.

Geo for Higher Ed Summit 2014

When: 2014
Google Earth Outreach co-hosted (with Google Geo EDU) a mapping workshop for 75 higher education instructors and researchers from education institutions around the world for a three-day workshop, designed for course instructors and researchers interested in using Google’s mapping tools in their classes and research.

Geo for Good User Summit 2013

When: 2013
Google Earth Outreach hosted 90 power users of Google mapping tools from 72 public benefit organizations at Google headquarters for the Geo for Good User Summit, a 4-day mapping workshop. This workshop taught highly practical mapping tools, which organizations can use to collect, host, analyze, visualize, and publish map data using the power of the cloud.

IUCN World Conservation Congress 2012

The Google Earth Outreach team attended the quadrennial International Union of the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Conservation Congress (WCC) in Jeju, South Korea, where we hosted a day-long Conservation Campus workshop for 50 conservation professionals.

Rio+20: United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development

When: 2012
The Google Earth Outreach and Google Earth Engine teams traveled to Rio+20 to deliver technical workshops and show how technology is supporting environmental preservation and sustainable development -- and that scientists, governments, indigenous people and NGOs around the world are already using Google mapping tools in ways that will have real impact.

United National Climate Change Conference -- COP 16

When: 2010
Google Earth Outreach traveled to the global U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP16) talks in Cancun, Mexico to deliver a series of workshops, and released climate change tours that use Google Earth to explore adaptation strategies that mitigate the effects of climate change.

Indigenous Mapping Workshop

When: 2010
Co-hosted by the Indigenous Mapping Network, Google Geo Developers, and Google Earth Outreach, this workshop trained 100 representatives and affiliates from indigenous tribes of North and South America, including US, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, and Guatamala; in Google mapping tools.

United National Climate Change Conference -- COP 15

When: 2009
Google Earth Outreach traveled to the global U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP15) talks in Copenhagen, and released a series of Google Earth tours that illustrate climate change issues and solutions. Many of these include tours created by NGOs, which guide you through their efforts to tackle some of the impacts of our changing climate on human life, wildlife, and our environment.

Google Earth Outreach Launch in Africa

When: 2009
We launched the Google Earth Outreach program in 55 African countries with a series of workshops for 500 nonprofit users in Nairobi, Kenya and Kampala, Uganda.

IUCN Workshop in Spain

When: 2008
During the 2008 IUCN World Conservation Congress, Google Earth Outreach hosted a training for 25 participants from conservation nonprofit organizations as well as a train-the-trainer workshop for IUCN employees based all around the world.

Google Earth Outreach Goes to the Amazon

When: 2008
Google Earth Outreach traveled to Brazil to conduct a training in the Amazon at the special invitation of Amazon Chief Almir Naramayoga Surui, who'd invited the team down to train his people on using Google Earth, YouTube, blogs and other Internet tools in order to preserve their history and culture, protect their rainforest, and create a sustainable future for their tribe.

We launched the Google Earth Outreach program to 7 European countries (the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, France, Spain and Italy) and held nonprofit workshops at 5 cities in Europe (Amsterdam, Hamburg, Geneva, London and Barcelona).
