Google Earth and Geography Awareness Week 2006
Google and My Wonderful World, a National Geographic-led campaign for geographic literacy, have teamed up to use Google Earth as an educational
tool for spreading awareness about people, places and diversity of our wonderful planet. Since 1987, National Geographic and other organizations
have celebrated "geography awareness" during the third week of November, promoting the importance of geography in the U.S. and Canada. Each
year, the focus is on a different area of the world. This year, it's Africa.
This page contains an interactive quiz on Africa, details on multimedia content in Google Earth and daily themes for the geography awareness week.

Google Earth Featured Content
Google Earth overlays rich content on top of its satellite imagery for easy exploration in a visually appealing and intuitive manner. To access this content, go to the Layers panel in the Google Earth sidebar and click the "Featured Content" checkbox.
The Featured Content layer in Google Earth has regularly updated multimedia information from many well known sources such as National Geographic Magazine, Discovery Networks, UNEP among others. The layers contain overlays such as live webcams in African jungles, movies and images, feature articles and more.
To support the Geography Awareness Week 2006, we are launching new featured content layers to showcase Africa and its diversity.
