General Motors could report Thursday its first unprofitable quarter in four years, largely due to the estimated $1.3 billion cost of its ignition switch recall, but it remains profitable in North America aside from one-time accounting provisions.
(GM) car owners attacked as �unsupportable� the automaker's bid for protection from economic claims stemming from events before bankruptcy, turning the fight over ignition-switch recall compensation into a battle of creditors.
For the period ended March 31, Detroit-based GM, the world's third-largest automaker, is expected to record net income of $134.6 million, or 9 cents per share, on average, according to analysts polled by Thomson Reuters.
