The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation wears a Santa hat every year. A not-for-profit charity organized by the United States Marine Corps, Toys for Tots collects and distributes new toys at Christmas to children in need. Campaigns in some 650 communities distributed more than 16.2 million toys to 7.6 million children in 2008. About 70 corporations are national sponsors, collecting an average of $60 million in toys each year. Big Lots, ESPN, Starbucks, Neopets, and Ford Motor Company are among them. Major Bill Hendricks started Toys for Tots in 1947 after he couldn't find an organization to give away a Raggedy Ann doll that his wife had made for needy children.
