Wanna go Dutch on an IPO? Investment banking firm WR Hambrecht uses its OpenIPO Web site to let investors in on initial public offerings via a Dutch auction similar to that used in the sale of US Treasuries. Its OpenBook is an online corporate bond auction, and OpenFollowOn provides online auctions of corporate equity follow-ons. The firm also offers trading, analysis, and research services; it specializes in technology, health care/life sciences, and consumer/retail. William Hambrecht founded the firm in 1998 after retiring from Hambrecht & Quist, which he'd co-founded in 1968. Industry heavyweights such as American Century and Fidelity are among WR Hambrecht's financial backers.
