Beloved by bovines, Chick-fil-A operates one of the nation's largest fast-food chains that specializes in chicken dishes. Boasting more than 1,400 restaurants in almost 40 states, the chain offers chicken entrees, sandwiches, and salads, along with its popular waffle fries and fresh-squeezed lemonade. Its outlets are mostly freestanding units that offer drive-through service as well as dine-in seating, but the company also has a significant number of mall-based stores. Chick-fil-A also licenses its concept to foodservice and concessions operators. The chain was started in 1946 by chairman Truett Cathy; a devout Baptist, he insists on a policy that all Chick-fil-A restaurants be closed on Sundays.
