Group Health Cooperative gives new meaning to the term "consumer-driven health care." The organization is a not-for-profit managed health care group serving more than 600,000 residents of Washington and Northern Idaho. Founded in 1947 and governed by a member-elected board, the co-op offers health insurance through its Group Health Options and KPS Health Plans subsidiaries. It also operates a research institute and offers health care clinical services, primarily through its affiliated Group Health Physicians organization. It also maintains partnerships with other health facility operators.
