The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) is the nation's oldest state military college. VMI offers bachelor's degrees in majors such as engineering, science, and the humanities. It has about 1,500 cadets and 145 faculty members. VMI offers 14 majors offering 18 degrees and 26 minors. All students must take classes in one of the four Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs (Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marines). About half of its graduates go on to serve in the military. The institute enrolls cadets from 34 US states and six countries and has a cadet-faculty ratio of 11.3:1.
