When a Boston Red Sox player gets slugged, he may end up at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). Though it's the official hospital for this Major League Baseball team, it's perhaps better known for being a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. BIDMC has about 600 beds and provides general medical and surgical care, as well as outpatient services, at its facilities. In addition to a Level 1 trauma center, BIDMC offers specialized care in such areas as organ transplantation, breast cancer care, and cardiac surgery. The hospital is active in medical research and is home to the Harvard-Thorndike Laboratory, one of the oldest clinical research labs in the US. BIDMC is part of CareGroup.
