Alpha Media Group is vying for the spot of top dog in the magazine pack. The company publishes men's lifestyle magazine Maxim and its related Web site, as well as StuffMagazine.com. Maxim reaches "readers" each month through a mix of men's humor, information, and pictures of barely clothed women. After buying three titles from Dennis Publishing Limited in 2007 (Blender, the US edition of Maxim, and the gadget magazine Stuff) for some $250 million, private equity firm Quadrangle Capital Partners created Alpha Media Group and folded the operations of Stuff into Maxim.
