The company runs 45 container terminals at major ports in about 30 countries on six continents. (At the terminals, shipping containers -- big boxes full of cargo -- are transferred between ocean-going vessels and ground transportation vehicles.) Its ports handle about 44 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) per year. DP World is owned by Port & Free Zone World, a subsidiary of Dubai World, a government-owned holding company with investments in several industry sectors, mainly related to international trade.
