The Spirit moved Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL) to merge with Lutheran Brotherhood and form a new entity, christened Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. The fraternal benefit society now includes nearly 3 million members, and brings under one steepled roof more than $70 billion in assets under management. Individuals and congregations that become members can shop for life insurance, mutual funds, bank and trust services (through Thrivent Financial Bank), and other financial services. Thrivent Financial, which operates all over the US, has nearly $160 billion in life insurance in force. The company also supports three separate foundations which contribute to charitable causes.
