Passenger airline Aerovas Nacionales del Continente Americano, known as Avianca, has moved beyond its base in Colombia to cover more of the world. The airline flies to about 50 destinations, half in Colombia and half in other countries (mainly in the Americas but also to three cities in Europe). It operates a fleet of almost 65 Airbus aircraft. Avianca also runs air cargo service Tampa Cargo and Ecuadorian airline Aerolneas Galpagos (AeroGal). The airline combined with El Salvador-based carrier TACA in 2010 to form AviancaTaca. Brazil-based conglomerate Synergy Aerospace, led by oil magnate German Efromovich, ultimately owns a controlling stake in both Avianca and AviancaTaca.
