Castle Cement has lowered the drawbridge and stormed the UK building materials market. Doing business as Hanson Cement, the company sells about 3 million tonnes of cement annually, supplying around a quarter of the UK demand. The company sells to the building and construction industries from its plants in Ketton (in Rutland), Ribblesdale (in Lancashire), and Padeswood (in North Wales). Hanson Cement also owns clay, limestone, and shale quarries, which are used in the production of clinker. Other products include lightweight aggregate for insulation and the Snowcem range of render and finishes. Hanson Cement is a subsidiary of Germany-based cement giant HeidelbergCement.
