The mission of South Carolina's governor is to raise the personal incomes of the state's residents. The Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation supports that mission by fostering economic growth and open government through licensing, regulation, and training. Its divisions include legal services, the fire marshal and fire academy, labor, and professional and occupational licensing. Also under the LLR umbrella are the Division of Administration and the Office of Communications and Governmental Affairs. LLR regulates and licenses more than 35 professions and administers about 70 programs from OSHA enforcement to fire fighter training. The agency was created in 1994 by combining 40 separate state agencies.
