Coskata is looking to turn biowaste into biotreasure. Through a proprietary process, Coskata produces cellulosic ethanol from plant-derived biomass, agricultural residues, municipal wastes, and other feedstock. The company, which is currently developing and refining its production technology, operates a semi-commercial facility in Pennsylvania and intends to begin producing fuel-grade ethanol on a fully commercial scale at a future plant in Alabama. In an effort to secure funding for its new plant, Coskata filed a $100 million IPO in late 2011. It has also received financing from the USDA for the construction of the facility.
