President and Fellows of Middlebury College operates Middlebury College, a private liberal arts school in Vermont that offers courses of study in the arts, humanities, literature, foreign languages, social sciences, and natural sciences. About 2,450 undergraduates are enrolled at the educational institution. Founded in 1800, it is home to the Bread Loaf School of English, known for its summer graduate courses in literature, as well as instruction in creative writing and theatre. Bread Loaf is located in the Green Mountains a dozen miles east of Middlebury. Every summer Middlebury College also opens the Language Schools, from which the college provides instruction in 10 languages to more than 2,000 students.
