Similar to the National Trust for Historic Preservation in the US, The National Trust is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting the historic places and natural sites in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The charitable organization owns and manages more than 630,000 acres of land, plus nearly 750 miles of coastline. It also raises funds for preservation efforts by renting out selected properties for weddings, conferences, vacations, and film shoots. The trust protects and opens to the public more than 350 historic houses and gardens and 50 monuments and mills. Established in 1895, The National Trust has grown to comprise some 3.7 million subscribing members and 61,000 volunteers.
