Lone Star Funds rounds up distressed companies around the world. The private equity firm has organized more than $13 billion in funds since 1995. It doesn't discriminate when it comes to investments, but they generally fall into five categories: asset acquisition, corporate acquisition, company sponsorship, refinancing/recapitalization, and development. After the subprime mortgage lending crisis, Lone Star has been a Texas tornado of real estate acquisitions. It bought Accredited Home Lenders for more than $400 million in 2007, among others. Lone Star announced plans to launch two more funds in 2008 worth a combined $6.5 billion.
