Fortescue Metals Group Ltd (Fortescue) is engaged in the development and operation of the Cloudbreak and Christmas Creek iron ore mines in the Pilbara in Western Australia. The Company operates an integrated logistics chain starting with the mining of iron ore from Fortescue’s Cloudbreak mine site, the railing of product along Fortescue’s heavy haul rail line through to the loading of ships at the Fortescue’s port facility at Port Hedland. As of June 30, 2009, Fortescue’s second mine at Christmas Creek had commenced operations with product being trucked to the Cloudbreak ore processing facility for inclusion in the product blend. Fortescue also maintains an exploration and metallurgical program, which is developing tenement areas outside of the current mining sites.
