Abilene was once the home where the buffalo roamed, but now it's where the Abilene Christian University Wildcats play. The private Church of Christ-affiliated university, which requires Bible study courses and daily chapel attendance, has an enrollment of about 4,600 students. By 2020 the school intends to be the world's premier Christ-centered university. It offers some 70 baccalaureate majors that include more than 125 areas of study, in addition to about 25 graduate academic programs, one doctoral program, and study abroad programs in Oxford, England, and Montevideo, Uruguay. The student-teacher ratio is 15:1. Abilene Christian University was founded in 1906.
