Sorin SpA is an Italy-based group active in the field of medical technology for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. It focuses on three business units. The Cardiopulmonary (CP) unit develops, manufactures and markets disposable biomedical devices and systems, including oxygenators, heart-lung machines, perfusion tubing systems, cannulae and accessories, and systems for autotransfusion and autologous blood washing. The Heart Valves (HV) unit develops, manufactures and markets implantable prostheses to replace or repair heart valves, including tissue and mechanical heart valves, as well annuloplasty rings. The Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) unit focuses on production of pacemakers to reestablish normal cardiac rhythm, implantable cardiac defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) systems to treat heart failure and monitor the risk of arrhythmia. In January 2014, Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena sold entire shareholding in Sorin SpA, equal to approximately 5.7%.
