Description

John Hancock Bank and Thrift Opportunity Fund (the Fund) is a diversified closed-end management investment company. The Fund’s investment objective is long-term capital appreciation. The Fund invests at least 80% of net assets in stocks of regional banks and lending companies, including commercial and industrial banks, savings and loan associations and bank holding companies. It may invest in investment-grade debt securities, as well as debt securities rated BB or below by Standard & Poor’s Ratings group or Ba or below by Moody’s Investors Service, Inc., or if unrated by such rating organizations, determined by the Fund’s investment advisor to be of comparable quality. The Fund’s investment advisor is John Hancock Advisers, LLC. The Fund’s sub-advisor is MFC Global Investment Management (U.S.), LLC.
