Capitol Bancorp Ltd. (Capitol) is a bank holding company that provides its customers with banking, trust and other financial services and products. These services include commercial banking through 60 subsidiary banks, as well as trust services, mortgage origination and servicing, equipment leasing, brokerage and investment advisory services, property and casualty insurance, brokerage services, life insurance and annuity products, and portfolio management services through subsidiary banks and other subsidiaries. As of December 31, 2008, 56 of Capitol's banking subsidiaries were state-chartered banks, while six of its depository institution subsidiaries are chartered as federal savings banks. In July 2009, the Capitol announced the planned divestiture of Nevada-based affiliate, 1st Commerce Bank. Global Consumer Acquisition Corporation and California-based affiliate, Bank of Santa Barbara. In September 2009, the Company completed the sale of Yuma Community Bank to The Foothills Bank.
