Description

Carmike Cinemas, Inc. is a motion picture exhibitor in the United States. As of December 31, 2008, it owned, operated or had an interest in 250 theatres with 2,287 screens located in 36 states. As of December 31, 2008, the Company had 231 theatres (92% of its theatres) with 2,157 screens (94% of its screens) on a digital-based platform. In addition, it had 193 theatres (77% of its theatres) with 452 screens (20% of its screens) equipped for three-dimensional (3-D). During the year ended December 31, 2008, it operated 22 theatres with 131 screens as discount theatres. The majority of its revenues come from the sale of movie tickets. As of December 31, 2008, of Carmike Cinemas, Inc.’s 250 theatres, 228 showed first-run films, which it licenses from distributors owned by the studios, as well as from independent distributors, nine of which exhibited first-run films at an admission price, and the remaining 22 of its theatres featured films at a discount price.
