The Company operates in two segments: Research Models and Services (RMS) and Preclinical Services (PCS). The Company provides the animal research models required in research and development of drugs, devices and therapies. Charles River’s customer base includes global pharmaceutical companies, a range of biotechnology companies, as well as government agencies, hospitals and academic institutions worldwide. The Company operates approximately 70 facilities in 17 countries worldwide. During the fiscal year ended December 27, 2008 (fiscal 2008), the Company acquired NewLab BioQuality AG and MIR Preclinical Services.
