Fortress Minerals Corp. is engaged in precious and base-metal exploration in exploration in Russia. The Company’s subsidiary, Svetloye Gold Corporation (SGC), held, through a wholly owned Russian subsidiary, a 100% interest in an 8,460 hectare exploration license located in the Far East of the Russian Federation (Svetloye Project). Gold mineralization at Svetloye was formed by a sulfidation epithermal system within a Cretaceous, calcalkaline, volcanic arc. During the year ended December 31, 2008, an aggregate of 16,840 meters was drilled. The Dubaki License occurs along the Sekcha structural/mineral belt that extends from the Company’s Svetloye property northeast to the Khakandja gold/silver deposit. During 2008, the Company disposed of its interests in Nicaragua. In May 2008, the Company acquired the remaining 49% interest in SGC. In September 2009, the Company acquired a 51% interest in a subsidiary of Freeport-McMoRan Exploration Corporation.
