Description

Cyberonics, Inc. is a neuromodulation company engaged in designing, developing, selling and marketing of implantable medical devices that provide vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) therapy (VNS Therapy) for the treatment of epilepsy and depression. The Company’s VNS Therapy System includes a generator to provide stimulation to the vagus nerve, a bipolar extending from the generator to the vagus nerve, a tunneling tool to assist with implantation surgery, a programming wand and software to assist with setting the stimulation parameters after implantation of the generator and lead, magnets to suspend or induce stimulation manually and instruction manuals. Surgery to implant the generator and lead is performed on an outpatient basis. The battery contained in the generator has a finite life, which varies according to the model, the stimulation parameters and settings used for each patient.
