Thanks to Alice Cooper and Wayne's World, an entire generation of slackers now knows that the word "Milwaukee" comes from the Algonquian word Millioke which means "the good land." With a population of over 600,000, Milwaukee is Wisconsin's largest city and ranks 22nd in US cities by population. Started in 1846, Milwaukee (known as "Beer Town") was once a brewing mecca and home to four of the world's largest breweries, but consolidation and time have taken their toll, and only Miller still calls the city home. Milwaukee is now more tied to electronic commerce and high-tech medical equipment. Its government consists of a 15-seat City Council and its Mayor.
