Dynacq Healthcare, Inc. is a holding company that through its subsidiaries develops and manages acute care hospitals that principally provide specialized surgeries. The Company operates primarily in the United States and China. The Company focuses on developing and operating acute care hospitals designed to handle specialized surgeries, such as bariatric, orthopedic and neuro-spine surgeries. Certain of the Company’s facilities also provide plastic surgery, podiatry, gynecology, spine, sleep laboratory and pain management services, as well as minor emergency treatment services. During the fiscal year ended August 31, 2008 (fiscal 2008), the Company sold the Baton Rouge facility.
