Its executives may not be the artsy types, but Dick Blick Holdings knows its art. The company (more commonly known as Blick Art) owns and operates about 60 art supply stores in some 25 states. Its shops sell more than 60,000 products (such as paints, brushes, canvases, paper pads, and writing instruments) to professional artists, students, and teachers. Dick Blick also relies on its catalog and online operations, distributing millions of catalogs annually. Founded by Dick Blick and his wife in 1911, the company was bought by Robert Metzenberg in 1948. Metzenberg's descendants continue to run the business.
