Thompson Mahogany specializes in importing more than 20 different species of tropical hardwoods, mainly from Africa, Central and South America, and Australia, for distribution to retailers and manufacturers. The company also produces hardwood lumber, decking, and flooring. Its woods can be found on the deck of Bill Gates' mansion, in Martin guitars, and in Steinway pianos. Englishman Lewis Thompson founded Thompson Mahogany in 1840 as a cabinet and furniture business that imported mahogany for its own uses. The company is owned and operated by Donald Thompson, who bought the company in 1985 (and is not related to the founder).
